Creators deliver what the brief says. A vague brief ("make a fun video about our app") gets a vague video. A good brief fits on one page and answers every question before the creator has to ask.
The template
Copy this and fill in each part.
1. Goal (one sentence) What should the viewer do or feel? "Download the app and create their first packing list."
2. Who is watching One or two lines about the viewer: "Parents planning their first trip with kids, stressed about forgetting things."
3. The hook (first 2 seconds) Give 2 or 3 options, written as spoken lines, max 12 words each. Use hooks that work in the creator's niche right now, not generic ones.
- "I used to forget something every single trip. Not anymore."
- "POV: you are packing for four people at 11pm."
4. Beats The story in 3 to 5 steps with rough timing:
- 0 to 2s: hook, creator on camera, suitcase chaos.
- 2 to 8s: the problem, quick cuts of forgotten items.
- 8 to 20s: the product in use, screen recording or real use.
- 20 to 28s: the result, calm packed suitcase.
- 28 to 30s: CTA.
5. On-screen text The 3 or 4 text overlays you want, short.
6. Call to action Exact words: "Link in bio, it is free."
7. Must say / must not say Product name, key claim, anything legal (no health promises, no competitor names).
8. Deliverables Length, format (9:16), number of videos and hook variations, raw footage yes or no, deadline.
9. Usage rights and payment Platforms, organic or paid, duration, fee, when you pay.
Three rules that make briefs work
- Leave room for the creator's voice. Give the beats, not a word-for-word script. Creators know their audience.
- One message per video. Two benefits in 30 seconds means neither lands.
- Base the hook on proof. Pick hooks that already work in the niche, with views to show for it.
